Hire Figma Designer — design systems and handoff that developers love
Most Figma files are expensive sketches — detached instances, no auto-layout, prototypes that demo beautifully and hand off terribly. A Figma designer builds files as working systems: components with variants and boolean properties, auto-layout that survives content changes, variables for theming, and dev mode specs that let engineers build exactly what was designed without a single ‘what did they mean here’ message.
I'm Omer Muneer Qazi, a Dubai-based Fractional CTO & Solutions Architect with 15+ years of experience and 100+ projects delivered across 6 countries. Figma work through me is judged on one metric: how cleanly it ships to production. For the governance layer that keeps the system healthy at scale, you can hire a design system expert on the same engagement.
Figma files built like software
Component architecture
Components with variants, slots, and boolean properties — designed so designers compose screens from the system instead of redrawing the same button forty times.
Auto-layout & variables
Responsive-by-construction layouts and design variables for spacing, color, and theming — including dark mode that is a variable switch, not a redesign.
Interactive prototypes
Prototypes with real flows, conditional logic, and smart animate — good enough for usability testing and stakeholder sign-off before engineering starts.
Dev-mode handoff
Files prepared for dev mode: named layers, specs, assets exported at correct densities, and annotations where design intent needs words.
Design QA process
A review loop between design and engineering during build — catching drift while it is cheap, so launch matches the file.
File hygiene & organization
Pages, naming, and version discipline that keep the file navigable at 200 screens — because a file nobody can navigate is a file nobody trusts.
From audit to shippable files
A structured engagement with no surprises — you’ll always know what’s happening and what’s next.
File & needs audit
We review your existing Figma files and product needs — and decide honestly whether to refactor or rebuild.
System foundation
Core components, styles, and variables built first and approved on real screens, so everything after inherits good structure.
Screen design & prototyping
Flows designed as working prototypes against the system, tested with users where it matters.
Handoff & design QA
Dev-mode preparation, engineering kickoff, and QA during the build so the shipped product matches the design.
Why hire a figma designer through a Fractional CTO
I sit on both sides of the design-engineering boundary — I have shipped software for fifteen years and I know exactly where handoff breaks. Figma work through me is specified, reviewed, and QA’d like code, because it becomes code.
The result is fewer redesign loops, faster builds, and interfaces that survive contact with real engineering constraints. To get design that ships cleanly, contact me with your product and timeline.
Frequently asked questions
Our Figma files are a mess — can you fix them?
Yes, starting with an audit. Sometimes refactoring components and rebuilding structure is enough; sometimes a clean rebuild is cheaper. The audit gives you an honest answer before we commit.
Do you do UX research or just UI?
Both ends exist: pure UI execution against your specs, or research-informed design with flows, testing, and iteration. Most product engagements need the latter.
How do you handle developer handoff?
Dev mode specs, named layers, exported assets, and annotations — plus a kickoff walkthrough with your engineers and design QA during the build.
Can you work inside our existing design system?
Absolutely — that is often the best setup. I extend your system with new components built to its conventions, and flag where the system itself needs strengthening.
Figma versus other tools — does it matter?
For collaborative product design, Figma is the standard for good reasons: multiplayer, components, dev mode. If your team is on Sketch or XD, I will tell you whether migrating is worth it.
What you actually get when you hire a Figma designer who also ships the code
When people hire a Figma designer they usually ask for pixels; what they actually need is a source of truth that survives contact with a codebase. I have spent fifteen years on both sides of that line, and the difference I bring is that every variable in the file maps to something real. I set up a token pipeline in Tokens Studio, sync it to a JSON source, and run it through Style Dictionary so the same colour, spacing and type scale land in your Tailwind config, your CSS custom properties, or your native iOS and Android resources. Change one value in Figma and it propagates everywhere, with no manual translation and no slow drift between design and build.
The second thing I obsess over is the states nobody designs until production breaks. Most files only show the happy path, a form with perfect data and a list of three tidy items. I design the empty state, the loading skeleton, the error toast, the 200-character name that wraps, the offline case and the permission-denied view. I populate components with realistic content using Content Reel and actual API responses rather than Lorem ipsum, because that is exactly where layouts crack. This is the unglamorous work that stops your engineers inventing interface decisions on the fly at 2am, which is quietly how most design systems fall apart within a year.
Accessibility is specified, not assumed. I check colour contrast against WCAG AA for every token pair, design visible focus states and a sensible keyboard order, annotate ARIA roles and label relationships in dev mode, and size touch targets to at least 44px. I also build the file to stay fast at scale: component variants instead of duplicated layers, local components promoted into a proper library, branching for safe experiments, and a page structure that does not bring Figma to its knees. A 4,000-layer file that takes thirty seconds to open is a tax your whole team pays every single day, and it is usually invisible until I fix it.
Good looks like this: a developer opens dev mode, reads a spec that matches a token already in their codebase, and builds the screen without a single Slack question. The mistakes I am hired to fix are almost always the same handful, detached instances that quietly broke the system, hard-coded hex values with no token behind them, a design system that is really just a sticker sheet, and prototypes that demo beautifully but hide the real conditional logic. I would rather hand you fewer screens that are genuinely production-ready than a hundred gorgeous frames your team cannot actually ship.
When clients hire me for this
Founder before the first design hire
A startup has a product living in raw screens or a no-code tool and is about to hire engineers. I build the component library, the token foundation and the core flows first, so the team is not reinventing buttons and spacing in week one and the design can scale with the roadmap.
Handoff that keeps slipping
A team ships every sprint but burns hours on why does this not match the design tickets. I rebuild the handoff layer end to end, tokens wired to code, dev mode specs, annotated states, so the file and the running product stop diverging and the back-and-forth largely disappears.
A Figma file that has become a liability
The product grew and the file now crawls, variants are duplicated, and nobody fully trusts the library anymore. I restructure the pages, consolidate components into a real published library, and introduce branching so several people can work in parallel without overwriting each other.
Figma to code with AI in the loop
A team wants to move faster from design to React without losing fidelity. I set up the token pipeline and clean dev mode specs so tools like Anima, Builder.io or an LLM coding assistant generate output that is genuinely close, then I review that output so what ships still matches the system.
Questions buyers ask
How much does it cost to hire a Figma designer like you?
I price a hire figma designer engagement three ways: a fixed quote for a defined deliverable such as a component library, a day rate for exploratory or short work, or a monthly fractional retainer when design needs to move alongside engineering. For most product teams the retainer wins, because it keeps the file, the tokens and the handoff in sync as the product changes. I quote after a short call, once I understand scope and the state of your current files.
How fast can you deliver a working file?
It depends on scope, but I start with a quick audit so you get a real estimate rather than a guess. A focused component library plus a few core flows is typically two to three weeks; a full product surface is longer. I would rather set an honest timeline and hit it than promise a week and hand you something your engineers cannot build from.
Why hire you instead of a design agency?
When you hire a figma designer through me you work directly with the person doing the work, not an account manager relaying briefs, so nothing gets lost in translation and there is no agency markup on junior hours. I also bring fifteen years of engineering judgment, which means the file is built to be shipped, not just presented. For deep ongoing work I can bring in trusted specialists, but you always deal with me.
Can you build the front end too, not just design in Figma?
Yes. I can take the Figma system through to production in React with Tailwind, or in Framer or Webflow, with the same token pipeline connecting design and code so they do not drift. That is the real advantage of hiring a figma designer who is also a solutions architect, you get one person accountable for the whole path from variable to shipped component.
Do you handle motion and micro-interactions, or just static screens?
Both. I prototype interactions with smart animate and conditional logic for testing and sign-off, and I hand off precise timing, easing and trigger specs so motion is not left to guesswork. For production I will specify or build it directly in Framer Motion or Lottie, depending on your stack, so the final animation matches the prototype rather than approximating it.
You are based in Dubai, can you work with my US or UK team?
Yes, I work with teams across the UAE, US, UK, Canada, Pakistan and Malaysia. The UAE timezone gives useful overlap with both Europe and the US workday, and my handoff is built to be async anyway, dev mode specs, annotated files and clear written decisions, so progress does not stall waiting for a shared hour on a call.
