Hire Contentful Developer — enterprise content, API-first

Contentful is the enterprise headless CMS: API-first content infrastructure with multi-locale publishing, granular roles, and an app ecosystem built for organizations where content is a serious operation. Its strength is governance at scale; its risk is cost and complexity arriving before your team is ready to wield them.

I'm Omer Muneer Qazi, a Dubai-based Fractional CTO & Solutions Architect with 15+ years of experience and 100+ projects delivered across 6 countries. For customizable structured content with real-time editing, hire a sanity developer; when the brief says enterprise governance and multi-market publishing, Contentful is the platform I spec.

What You Get

Content operations that scale with the org

How It Works

From content chaos to governed platform

A structured engagement with no surprises — you’ll always know what’s happening and what’s next.

Why Omer

Why hire a Contentful developer through a Fractional CTO

Contentful engagements fail on two fronts: under-scoped governance that leaves editors in chaos, or over-engineered models nobody can publish against. I calibrate the model to your team's actual maturity — enterprise-grade where it matters, pragmatic everywhere else — and I keep the license cost honest against your scale.

I have run content platform migrations where the redirect map alone saved six figures of organic traffic. To scope yours, contact me with your markets, team size, and current platform.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is Contentful worth the cost vs Sanity or Strapi?

At enterprise scale with multi-locale needs and large editorial teams, usually yes — governance, SLAs, and ecosystem depth justify it. Below that scale, Sanity or Strapi often deliver more value per dollar, and I will tell you when that is the case.

Can Contentful power our mobile apps too?

Yes — that is the point of headless. The same content APIs feed your site, iOS/Android apps, and any future channel through one governed model.

How do we migrate from WordPress to Contentful?

Scripted content extraction, model mapping, media migration, and redirect maps — planned as an engineering project with rollback points, not a weekend hope. SEO preservation is designed in from day one.

What about personalization and A/B testing?

Via the app ecosystem (Ninetailed and similar) or your own edge logic consuming Contentful entries. I architect the content model so variants are manageable rather than multiplicative chaos.

How long does a Contentful implementation take?

Platform setup with solid modeling runs four to eight weeks; enterprise rollouts with migrations, locales, and integrations run two to four months.

Beyond the setup

What it means to hire a Contentful developer who models for editors and ships to production

When you hire a Contentful developer, the real work is not clicking through the web app to create a few content types. It is deciding how editors, code, and your delivery layer meet, then making those decisions survive two years of growth. I come in at that level. I have delivered Contentful behind Next.js App Router front ends on Vercel, wired on-demand revalidation so a single edit refreshes one page in seconds rather than triggering a forty-minute rebuild, and set up preview environments that let marketing see drafts exactly as they will render. The difference between a space that compounds value and one that becomes a liability is made in the first fortnight, by someone who has watched both outcomes happen.

The part most teams get wrong is the content model, so it is where I spend the most care. I build composable modules, a hero, a feature grid, a quote, a call to action, assembled into pages through a references field, rather than one monolithic Page type with forty optional fields that editors fear. I keep reference nesting shallow because the Delivery API resolves includes only ten levels deep and a tangled graph quietly truncates. I treat rich text as a structured document, not HTML, rendering it with the official renderer so embedded entries and assets stay first-class. Every field gets validations, help text, and sensible appearance settings, because an unguarded model is the fastest route to inconsistent content.

For delivery I choose GraphQL or the REST Content Delivery API deliberately, not by habit. GraphQL lets me fetch a page and its linked modules in one typed query with fragments, avoiding the over-fetching and include juggling REST invites, while REST still wins for simple, highly cacheable reads behind Fastly. I run draft content through the Preview API and Next.js draft mode so editors never need a separate staging deploy, and I trigger revalidation from Contentful webhooks keyed to the exact entries that changed. I also generate TypeScript types from the live model with codegen, so a renamed field breaks the build instead of production, and I respect the API rate limits in every migration and sync script so bulk operations do not stall on 429s.

Most of my engagements involve fixing the same recurring mistakes. Teams build without environments and environment aliases, so every schema change is a gamble against live content; I give them a develop-to-master promotion flow that makes migrations reversible. They skip migration scripts and edit the model by hand, so no two spaces match; I script changes with the migration tooling and check them into Git. They expose the model raw, so editors drown in fields they should never touch. Good, to me, looks like a model a new editor understands in an afternoon, a front end that is fully typed, deploys that are instant and safe, and content that renders identically in preview and production. That is what you are actually buying.

Questions buyers ask

What does it cost to hire a Contentful developer like you?

I work either on a day rate for advisory and audit work, or a fixed scope for a defined build, which is what most clients prefer. Once I have your markets, team size, content volume, and front-end stack, I give a written scope with milestones and a fixed price. There is no open-ended hourly meter, and the Contentful licence itself is billed by Contentful, separately from my fees.

Can you work in our existing Contentful space, or only greenfield builds?

Both, and roughly half the people who hire me as a Contentful developer come with an existing space that has drifted. I start with an audit of the content model, environments, and front-end integration, give you a prioritised list of what to fix, and then refactor incrementally using scripted migrations so nothing breaks in production. Greenfield is simpler, but I am comfortable untangling a messy inherited space.

Do you build Contentful with Next.js App Router, preview, and ISR?

Yes, that is my default stack. I use the App Router with the Preview API behind Next.js draft mode so editors see unpublished changes exactly as they will render, and I drive incremental static regeneration through Contentful webhooks for instant, page-level updates. I also work with Nuxt, Astro, and SvelteKit, but Next.js on Vercel is where I move fastest and have the most patterns ready.

GraphQL or the REST Content Delivery API, which do you use?

It depends on the shape of the page. For composed pages with linked modules I prefer GraphQL, because typed fragments let me fetch the whole tree in one query and sidestep REST include-depth limits. For simple, high-traffic reads I often use the REST Delivery API behind Fastly caching. A good Contentful developer picks per use case rather than forcing one API everywhere.

Can you generate TypeScript types from our content model?

Yes, and I treat it as standard rather than optional. I generate types from your live model using codegen tooling and wire it into the build, so a renamed or removed field fails CI instead of silently breaking a production page. Combined with the rich-text types, this gives you a fully typed path from the content model through to the rendered component, which pays off on every future change.

Do you offer ongoing support after launch, or just the build?

I offer a monthly retainer for teams that want continuity, covering model changes, new modules, migrations, app integrations, and someone to call when something behaves oddly. Many clients hire me for an initial build and keep a small retainer afterwards so the space stays clean as it grows. If you would rather bring it fully in-house, I document everything and train your team before handing over.
